About the Opportunity
Bishop & Company is seeking an experienced Paralegal to support a leading financial institution's commercial lending operations. This position is ideal for a highly organized professional with experience in commercial loan documentation, complex real estate transactions, regulatory compliance, legal entity structures, and title-related matters. The successful candidate will work closely with lending teams, relationship officers, compliance partners, and outside counsel to ensure accurate and timely preparation of commercial loan documentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Commercial Loan Documentation
- Prepare and facilitate commercial loan documents accurately and timely in accordance with Credit Approval Memorandums (CAMs), Modification Agreements, and other approved credit documents.
- Collaborate with loan specialists, relationship officers, and outside counsel to identify documentation requirements and resolve issues that may delay loan closing, funding, or recording.
- Partner with management, Compliance, Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), and Credit Administration teams to address documentation, compliance, and regulatory matters.
- Maintain exceptional knowledge of the bank's credit policies and documentation standards.
- Documentation Review & Quality Control
- Prepare high-quality business-purpose loan documents using loan documentation software, including LaserPro or similar systems.
- Understand appropriate document language requirements and distinguish between standard system language and approved custom provisions.
- Monitor follow-up task reports and ensure tasks are documented, approved, and completed within required timeframes.
- Track and resolve post-closing items with lending units.
- Perform loan documentation reviews and provide final quality review approval for Documentation Specialists.
- Process Improvement & Team Support
- Identify recurring documentation challenges and recommend practical solutions to management.
- Support departmental projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrate a positive, team-oriented approach and provide backup support for Documentation Specialists as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience: Minimum six (6) years of experience with competencies in:
- Complex real estate transactions within the State of Hawaii.
- Due diligence, regulatory compliance, and title-related matters.
- Legal entity structures and documentation.
- Development and implementation of compliance policies and procedures.
- Building effective partnerships and teamwork across business units.
- Substitution: A Bachelor's Degree or Paralegal Degree/Certification in a related field, including coursework in business law, contract law, or real estate law, may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal Certification preferred.
- Experience supporting commercial lending and banking operations.
- Knowledge of commercial loan documentation software, including LaserPro.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
