The Barrington School District is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-centered Special Education Paraprofessional for the 2026-27 school year. This position supports students with disabilities across a range of academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional needs and is instrumental in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment where all students feel empowered to succeed.
Job Goal
To assist children with significant needs such as spectrum disorders, multiple handicaps, emotional disorders, cognitive disorders, and/or health needs in delivering instruction as determined by the special education teacher.
Qualifications
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: NHDOE certification or eligibility in Paraeducator I or II.
- Experience and other qualifications as specified by the Superintendent.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience preferred.
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Performance Responsibilities
- Assist in instruction of reading, mathematics, and writing as determined by the special education teacher or related service provider.
- Perform curriculum skills in all courses including social studies, science, and specials such as physical education, music, art, and computer under supervision of a professional educator.
- Use a variety of technologies, including assistive technologies, to help students develop reading, writing, and learning skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages from age 3‑15, risk factors, learning styles, family influence, teaching strategies, sensitivity to diversity, laws and regulations, behavior management strategies, assessment methods, and approaches to reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain a safe, healthy learning environment; facilitate integration of individuals with exceptional learning needs; prepare and organize materials; promote student independence; use problem‑solving, flexible thinking, conflict management; use developmentally appropriate materials and assistive technology; implement behavior plans; support appropriate social skills; communicate and follow instructions; carry out assessment activities; maintain student records; seek help; support instructional choices.
- Implement individual behavior plans and discreet trails under guidance of professionals; use appropriate social interactions in group settings.
- Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards regarding student and family information and legal responsibilities.
Other Duties
Perform any additional duties as requested by the Special Education Building Coordinator or designee, consistent with the district’s goals and mission.
