Job summary

The Elma School District seeks a 6.0 hour Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Para-Professional to join Elma Elementary School. You will work with the TK teacher to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for our youngest students, supporting a range of developmental, academic, and behavioral needs in an inclusive setting.

Responsibilities include planning and implementing activities, supervising students, providing individual instruction, and assisting with behavior and classroom management

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two-year Associate degree or 72 quarter credits / 48 semester credits OR ParaPro passing score required.
• Background clearance (WSP/FBI) must be obtained by employee.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and implementing TK activities.
• Supervise students during classroom activities and recess.
• Provide individual and small group instruction as directed by the TK teacher.
• Help with behavior support and classroom management under staff guidance.
• Maintain a clean, organized classroom environment.
• Communicate progress and needs with the TK teacher and staff.

• Will be updated per EESP CBA Salary Schedule 2026-2027

Assignment:

• Mon – Fri; 6 hours per day

Summary:

We are seeking a 6.0 hour Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Para-Professional to join our team at Elma Elementary School. The successful candidate will work closely with the TK teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for our youngest students. This position supports students with a wide range of developmental, academic, behavioral, and individual needs in an inclusive classroom setting.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Meets NCLB definition of highly qualified requirements:
• A two-year Associate degree
• 72-quarter or 48-semester college credits, or
• A passing score of 455 on the ETS Para Pro Assessment
• WSP/FBI fingerprint background clearance (fee paid by the employee)

Responsibilities:

• Assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for TK students
• Supervise and support students during classroom activities, recess, and other school activities
• Provide individual and small group instruction to students as directed by the TK teacher
• Assist with classroom management and provide positive, developmentally appropriate behavior and regulation support, including responding to challenging behaviors as directed by certificated staff
• Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
• Communicate regularly with the TK teacher and other school staff regarding student progress and needs
• Attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required
• Other duties as assigned
• Able to assist students with personal care and development of self-help skills as needed, including toileting, feeding/eating, changing, handwashing, dressing, and other daily routines
• Willingness to participate in district-provided training related to student behavior, de-escalation, safety, and other skills necessary for the position
• Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, sit on the floor, transition between floor and standing positions, and move quickly when necessary to support and ensure student safety; able to lift up to 50 pounds as required
• Follows the direction of the certificated teacher
• Support students with IEPs by assisting with accommodations, goals, behavior supports, communication, and other individual needs as directed by certificated and special education staff
• Collaborate with general education and special education staff to support student success and inclusion
• Seeks out strategies to improve student interactions
• Maintains schedule
• Reliable in demeanor, attendance, and collaboration
• Positive and flexible attitude with students, staff, parents, and community members
• Willingness to work toward successful demonstration of core competencies
• Must participate in the Fundamental Course Training to gain the necessary skills to perform this position
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Demonstrated competence in basic academic/communication skills appropriate to site assignment
• Regular attendance is an essential function of this position
