Job summary

Sonoco in Chattanooga, TN seeks a Shift Supervisor to lead paper mill operations, safety, quality and productivity on a rotating shift; you will manage 2 paper machines, shipping, receiving and stock prep, reporting to the Assistant Superintendent.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years supervisory experience in paper/converting, strong leadership and communication, and proficiency with Oracle/GreyCon, UKG, Aptean and ParcView; HS diploma required, bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• HS graduate required; 5+ years supervisory in Paper/Converting/Corrugated.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Engineering or Paper Science.
• Experience with cylinder-type paper machines (5+ years).
• Strong leadership and coaching skills.
• Ability to work rotating shifts and manage safety and quality procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead plant safety policies and procedures including housekeeping practices.
• Promote safety engagement among all employees.
• Lead pre-shift safety meetings and monthly safety training meetings.
• Build effective relationships with all internal departments.
• Control process and production workflow to ensure safe and effective use of equipment capacity.
• Coordinate maintenance work, customer and manufacturing needs.
• Monitor all process controls and procedures.
• Ensure adherence to departmental quality procedures.
• Coach and counsel team members to perform to company standards.
• Alter schedules to adapt to unforeseen conditions.
• Be the first point of contact for all hourly employee concerns.
• Supervise assigned shift employees to accomplish daily safety, quality, productivity and efficiency goals.
• Complete daily timekeeping duties, attendance reports, and shift reports accurately.
• Ensure daily production and maintenance tasks and assignments are completed.
