Job summary

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division seeks a Pantropical Vegetation Dynamics Postdoctoral Fellow to combine observations, theory, and models to study tropical forests and their climate feedbacks within NGEE-Tropics.

The postdoc will test and develop models, analyze big data (eddy covariance, forest census, eddy, remote sensing), publish results, and present at meetings, with a two-year appointment and potential renewal.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field with strong background in ecological or climate-related research.
  • Experience with data-intensive processing and analysis using open-source tools.

Responsibilities

  • Run and test the ELM-FATES model against observational datasets at pantropical scales.
  • Apply ecological and plant-physiological theory to mechanistic controls on ecosystem structure and carbon, water, and energy exchange.
  • Analyze complex datasets with NGEE-Tropics data team (eddy covariance, forest census, phenology, remote sensing, land use change).
  • Investigate land-atmosphere feedbacks across hourly to centennial scales under varied climate/land-use scenarios.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant proposals on tropical biosphere–atmosphere interactions.
  • Present results in meetings and conferences.
