Job summary

Berkeley Lab’s Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division seeks a Pantropical Vegetation Dynamics Postdoctoral Fellow to explore tropical forests’ responses to climate, using observations, theory, and numerical models as part of NGEE-Tropics. You will study mechanistic controls on forest dynamics, including nutrient cycling and plant hydraulics, guiding model development and predictions for the 21st century.

The role involves testing land surface models, working with a data team, and publishing in

Qualifications

  • PhD in climate science, ecology, plant physiology, forestry, geography.

Responsibilities

  • Run and test the ELM-FATES model against observational datasets at pantropical scales.
  • Apply ecological and plant physiological theory to study mechanistic process controls and trait variation on ecosystem structure and carbon, water and energy exchange.
  • Analyze complex NGEE-Tropics datasets (eddy covariance, forest census, plant ecophysiology, remote sensing).
  • Investigate land-atmosphere feedbacks across scales under various climate/land-use scenarios.
  • Publish results in high-quality journals and contribute to proposals involving tropical biosphere-atmosphere interactions.
  • Present results in meetings and conferences.
