Job summary

HAWTHORNE ELEM. SCHOOL in Sweet Home, Oregon seeks TEMP Special Education Assistant-PALS to support the Basic Life Skills classroom and assist in instructional activities for students with special learning needs.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s or higher degree, or 48 semester hours / 72 quarter hours.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and memos.
• Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form.
• Ability to work with severely handicapped.

Responsibilities

• Assist instructional personnel with learning materials in Basic Life Skills classroom.
• Tutor students with special learning needs under a teacher’s direction.
• Monitor and assist students in drill, practice, and study activities.
• Direct students into safe learning and play activities and foster social behaviors.
• Assist in managing acting-out behavior with positive reinforcement.
• Prepare instructional materials and learning aids for children with special needs.
• Maintain records and files.
• Operate instructional aids, media, and computer-assisted instruction equipment.
