Job summary

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking an Electrician-related position in Houma, LA. This advanced role covers maintenance, repair and construction of electrical facilities on movable bridges, tunnels, underpasses and more, including exposure to energized conductors above 480 volts.

The role supports the district’s electrical systems, motors and control circuits, with a progression track from Trades Apprentice to Electrician Specialist depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• INSTALL, MAINTAIN AND REPAIR SINGLE AND THREE PHASE ELECTRICAL SERVICES INCLUDING STEP-DOWN TRANSFORMERS, SERVICE PANELS AND SERVICE CONNECTIONS.
• TROUBLESHOOT, INSTALL AND REPAIR ELECTRIC MOTORS, STARTERS, RELAYS AND CIRCUIT BREAKERS AND CONTROLS ON DISTRICT FACILITIES INCLUDING BRIDGE SPAN DRIVE MOTORS, BRIDGE SPAN LOCKS AND BREAK MOTORS.
• SERVICE, TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR CONTROL BOARDS AND CONTROL CIRCUITS INCLUDING ELECTRICAL SPEED CONTROL, RELAYS, LIMIT SWITCHES AND BYPASS CIRCUITS.
• PERFORM ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR TO ALL SYSTEMS ON BRIDGES, TUNNELS, UNDERPASSES, NAVIGATION LOCKS, INCLUDING GENERATORS, TRANSFORMERS, PUMPS AND LIGHTING.
• TROUBLESHOOT, SERVICE AND INSTALL REVERSING STARTS, UNDER VOLTAGE RELAYS AND MULTI-BREAKERS.

• SERVICE, TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR CONTROL BOARDS AND CONTROL CIRCUITS INCLUDING ELECTRICAL SPEED CONTROL, RELAYS INCLUDING PHASE FAILURE RELAYS, LIMIT SWITCHES AND ELECTRICAL COMPONENT BYPASS CIRCUITS.
• PERFORM ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR TO ALL SYSTEMS ON THE DISTRICT’S MOVABLE AND STATIONARY BRIDGES AS WELL AS THE DISTRICT’S TUNNELS, UNDERPASSES, NAVIGATION LOCKS, INCLUDING SERVICE AND REPAIR TO GENERATORS, TRANSFORMERS, ELECTRICAL SERVICE PUMPS AND ROADWAY, NAVIGATION AND HOUSE LIGHTING.
• TROUBLESHOOT, SERVICE AND INSTALL REVERSING STARTS, UNDER VOLTAGE RELAYS AND MULTI-BREAKERS, BOTH SINGLE AND THREE PHASE.

Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Trades Apprentice, Electrician, or Electrician Specialist depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). The maximum monthly salary for the Electrician Specialist is $6,566.00. Please refer to the “Job Specifications” tab located at the top of the LA Careers “Current Job Opportunities” page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts.

A valid Louisiana Class “D” Chauffeur’s License may be required at time of appointment.
