Job summary

Afinitas in New Hampton, IA is seeking an experienced Coatings Inspector to oversee painting operations, quality control, and safety compliance in a manufacturing plant.

You will read blueprints, perform surface preparation, and mentor junior technicians while ensuring adherence to corrosion control and coating inspection standards.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED; required.
• 6+ years industry experience with corrosion control and coating inspection principles.
• Certified or ability to certify in forklift and crane operation.
• Knowledge of air assisted paint guns.
• Experience using tape measures, rulers, protractors and combination squares.
• Must lift up to 75 lbs and manage multiple tasks in a manufacturing setting.
• Able to work individually and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate air assisted paint gun while wearing proper PPE.
• Prep and mask items to be painted.
• Operate overhead and jib cranes.
• Operate down draft paint booth.
• Perform preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches or specifications.
• Inspect structures or materials for paint booth operations.
• Develop, interpret and enforce coating inspection procedures and project specs.
• Oversee coating operations including quality management systems and safety programs.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Level I and II technicians.
• Maintain high autonomy in a QC/inspection role.

Job Description

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Operate air assisted paint gun while wearing proper PPE.
• Prep and mask items to be painted.
• Operate both overhead and jib style cranes.
• Operate down draft paint booth.
• Perform required preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
• Understand blueprints sketches or specifications.
• Ability to inspect structures or material for the operation of paint booths.
• Develops, interprets, and enforces complex inspection procedures and project specifications
• Manages and oversees all coating operations, including quality management systems and safety/environmental compliance programs
• Performs highly detailed surface preparation and finish work where cosmetic perfection may be critical
• Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and supervision to Level I and Level II technicians
• Works with a high autonomy and is often in a quality QC or inspection role

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required.
• Considered an industry expert with extensive verifiable experience (e.g., 6+ years) and a comprehensive understanding of corrosion control and coating inspection principles
• Certified or ability to certify in both forklift and crane operation.
• Knowledge of the use of air assisted paint gun
• Experience using tape measures, rulers, protractors, and combination squares.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
• Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to obtain and operate mobile equipment needed to perform essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Works in a plant/manufacturing environment that involves the use of industrial machinery and chemicals. Employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at the location.
