Job Purpose:

The Painting Technician is responsible for the surface preparation and application of paint product in accordance with customer/client specifications and requirements. Typical items painted include Transformers, Breakers and other utility substation equipment. Utilizes sprayers, brushes, rollers and flow coasts as needed. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions. Occasionally work is performed near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, fumes and airborne particulates, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock hazard, noise pollution, and vibration.

Responsibilities
  • Application of paint products in accordance with NASS, Customer and SSPC specifications/requirements
  • Follow and understand standard work, training guides, procedures, and acceptance criteria to meet customer requirements
  • Able to use industrial paint equipment and various hand tools
  • Maintain and clean spray guns, flow coat machine, and related equipment
  • Report inconsistencies and/or defects in material, product or equipment
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you collaborate with customers, clients, co-workers, and management
  • Help the company meet its Quality and Safety objectives
  • Other duties may also be assigned
Qualifications

Required:

  • State issue driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Able and willing to travel up to 75% with short notice availability
  • Able to successfully complete a pre-employment as well as random drug screens
  • Clean criminal background
  • Able to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Able to work at heights from a man lift and other elevated platforms and able to safely climb ladders and/or stairs
  • Able to stoop, crouch, kneel and bend as well as walk, sit and stand for significant amounts of time

Preferred:

  • Basic computer knowledge (Windows, email, internet)
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working as a substation painter
  • Effective oral and written skills
  • Minimum one year related work experience
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor or in a team environment
