Mankiewicz Coatings LLC is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Paint Technician to join our team, specializing in the Wind market sector. This role will provide technical support for the application and maintenance of high-performance coatings on wind turbines and wind blades across North America. The ideal candidate will have a background in paint coatings, be bilingual (English/Spanish), and be willing to travel extensively (up to 75%). While prior experience in the wind industry is a plus, candidates with general paint coatings experience and a strong willingness to learn will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the preparation and application of paint coatings on wind turbines and blades, ensuring that all work meets Mankiewicz Coatings' high-quality standards.
- Provide hands-on technical support to customer teams, troubleshooting coating-related issues, and ensuring proper application techniques.
- Monitor technical trends (coatings, application techniques and application equipment).
- Manage the testing on the marketability of new applications and application systems.
- Initiation, performance and evaluation of competitive research.
- Presentation of new products and their advantages to the customer according to the customers' processes and requirements.
- Direct the identification of customers' needs and market opportunities to continuously expand Mankiewicz' activities.
- Adjustments of products and adjustments in regards to customers' needs.
Personnel:
- Proactive handling of continuing education in regards to relevant technical and market knowledge.
- Represent the company professionally and courteously.
- Ensure reports are in line with internal format requirements.
Processes:
- Direct the application-technological trials and their documentation.
- Consult customers with application equipment.
- Application parameter testing of new product developments and optimization in cooperation with the laboratory.
- Organize workshops with colleagues and/or customers.
- Development of application recommendations for customers (internal and external).
- Maintain detailed records of onsite activities, including service reports, coating applications, and customer feedback.
- Gathering of information on, analysis of and dealing with application problems and complaints of the customers.
- Perform regular inspections of coating applications and provide feedback to improve quality and efficiency.
- Establishing and definition of application windows.
- Instruction of customers' painters / application engineers; imparting of specific application-technological knowledge.
- Imparting of knowledge on pretreatment methods to customers (internal and external).
Finances:
- Ensure that goals, targets and strategies will provide midterm and long term added profit to the group.
- Ensure efficient travel planning within the group possible.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Travel to customer facilities required. Must be willing to travel 75% of time via vehicle, airplane, train, etc.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Requires flexibility and understanding that this position may be required to perform duties outside the duties listed above in order to meet the mission and goals of Mankiewicz Coatings.
Role Requirements:
- Fluent in both English and Spanish required.
- Receive hazardous waste training within 6 months of initial employment, and annually thereafter in accordance with applicable provisions of R.61-79.262.17(a)(7)(ii), (iii) and (iv)(D) of the South Carolina Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (SCHWMR).
- Any experience with paint coatings, including industrial coatings, automotive, or general surface preparation and application is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Strong interest in learning technical aspects of coatings and their application in the wind industry.
- Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint).
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
- The position requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally, including to countries and customers that may require proof of vaccination.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices.
Physical Demands:
- Candidate must be able to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and at heights, as well as travel frequently.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Requires frequent walking, standing, heavy lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling and reaching.
- Must be able to mix paints, use paint sprayers and other equipment to efficiently and effectively perform the job.
- Exposure to fumes and hazardous chemicals.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Able to stand for 8 hours per day.
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on the telephone.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures in the industrial or wind industries.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
