Job summary

Truck Bodies & Equipment International (TBEI) a Subsidiary of Federal Signal Corporation is seeking a Paint Technician to prepare, paint, and finish dump bodies and truck equipment. You’ll apply primers and topcoats, match colors, and inspect finished work to meet quality standards, while collaborating with fabrication, assembly, and quality teams.

Responsibilities include surface prep, coating application, and routine maintenance of painting equipment, with safety and productivity targets.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience in industrial, automotive, truck body, or heavy equipment painting.
• Knowledge of spray-painting techniques, paint mixing, and coating applications.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions and production documents.
• Ability to work safely with PPE and hand/power tools.

Responsibilities

• Prepare dump bodies and components for painting via sanding, masking, and cleaning.
• Apply primers, sealers, and finish coats with spray equipment.
• Mix coatings and ensure proper paint thickness and finish.
• Inspect surfaces and perform touch-ups as needed.
• Maintain paint booths and equipment; follow safety and production schedules.
• Read work orders and manage inventory of paints and related supplies.

Job description

The Paint Technician is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing Class 3-8 dump bodies and related truck equipment to company quality standards. This position performs surface preparation, primer and topcoat application, color matching, and final inspection while maintaining safety, productivity, and quality requirements. The Paint Technician works closely with fabrication, assembly, and quality teams to ensure completed products meet customer specifications and industry standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Prepare dump bodies, truck equipment, and components for painting through sanding, grinding, masking, cleaning, and surface treatment.
• Apply primers, sealers, and finish coats using spray guns and other painting equipment.
• Mix hardeners and coatings according to manufacturer specifications.
• Ensure proper paint thickness, coverage, and finish quality.
• Inspect surfaces before and after painting to identify defects and perform necessary touch-ups.
• Maintain paint booths, spray equipment, and related tools in safe working conditions.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of painting equipment.
• Follow production schedules and maintain established productivity goals.
• Read and interpret work orders, specifications, and paint requirements.
• Maintain accurate inventory of paints, solvents, and consumable supplies.
• Observe all OSHA, environmental, and company safety regulations regarding hazardous materials and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of dump bodies and components as needed.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency.
• Ability to learn our painting process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in industrial, automotive, truck body, or heavy equipment painting.
• Knowledge of spray-painting techniques, paint mixing, and coating applications.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and paint equipment safely.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions and production documents.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with polyurethane and industrial coating systems.
• Forklift and overhead crane experience.
• Knowledge of paint thickness measurement tools and quality inspection procedures.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to wear respirators, protective clothing, gloves, and other required PPE.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes, dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
• Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas safely.
