Paint and Body Technician
Under general supervision, this position acts as a subject matter expert for body repairs. Responsible for troubleshooting, rebuilding, repairing, and painting of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. The role may require working outdoors, in various elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime. Full-time attendance is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect damaged or wrecked equipment and perform valuations to create cost estimates for repairs.
- Rebuild and paint wrecked trucks, hoods, and body parts; utilize expertise to perform holistic repairs.
- Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and complex repairs related to tractor maintenance, including fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA inspections.
- Accurately perform the most difficult repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications including aluminum and steel welding, complete work orders, and exceed requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines.
- Troubleshoot tractor issues, develop innovative solutions, and work independently under minimal direction.
- Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers at all times.
- Complete secondary maintenance on escalated repairs.
- Adhere to safety standards and procedures, including maintaining respirator log.
- Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturer training for OEM repairs.
- Operate wrecker to move trucks into shop for repair.
- Perform post- maintenance diagnostics and testing.
- Mentor technician trainees and act as team lead for shifts.

Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- 3+ years of experience in body repair, semi-tractor maintenance, and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in various elements, or across multiple shifts including nights or weekends if needed.
- A/C Certification.
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- Forklift Certification.
- PPG (paint) Certification.
- Welding (TIG and stick) Certification.
- Basic tools supplied by employee; if not, toolbox purchase program available.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.
- Excellent multitasking, reading, and English comprehension.
- Ability to wear appropriate protective gear/PPE.
- Teamwork and independent work capability.
- Advanced active listening, computer, deductive reasoning, organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Experience with paint booth operations.
- Self-motivation and proficient weld skills (TIG and stick).
Compensation
Starting pay range: $26.80 – $38.18 per hour. Compensation may vary based on skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. Positions may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives per company plans.
