J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in California is seeking a Senior Tractor Technician to perform advanced maintenance, service, and repairs on tractors and equipment.

You will troubleshoot, diagnose, and ensure units meet company specifications in a fast-paced shop environment. The role may involve outdoor work, nights and weekends, with overtime and cross-shift coverage. You will mentor trainees, lead shifts, and maintain safe, productive operations while communicating professionally with JB Hunt

Qualifications

• 18+ years old with 3+ years in semi-tractor maintenance or equivalent experience.
• A/C certification required.
• 1 year of experience in DOT/FHWA inspections and air brakes.
• Employees must provide basic tools or use toolbox purchase program.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex maintenance and repairs on tractors and equipment per JB Hunt specs.
• Troubleshoot issues, diagnose, and complete fleet maintenance processes.
• Mentor Tractor Technician trainees and lead shifts as needed.
• Follow shop safety procedures and maintain professional communications.
• Complete secondary maintenance on escalated repairs and meet SRT/warranty guidelines.
• Strive to exceed standard repair times and ensure quality workmanship.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position acts as a subject matter expert for Tractor Technicians. The Senior is responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt tractors and other equipment. Technicians must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete all fleet maintenance processes and ensure that units meet J.B. Hunt specifications at all times. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge of preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, and complex repairs as it pertains to tractor maintenance including but not limited to the fuel system, battery, engine, drive train, onboard computer, transmission, air brake systems, and FHWA Inspections
• May onboard and mentor new Tractor Technician trainees; act as team lead to include beginning or ending shifts
• Participate in Original Equipment Manufacturing training for OE repairs Troubleshoot tractor issues, develop innovative solutions and work independently under minimal direction
• Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
• Maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers at all times
• Complete secondary maintenance on escalated repairs
• Accurately perform the most difficult repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications, complete work orders, and exceed requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines

Wed - Sat 2:00pm-12:30am

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• 18 years of age with 3 or more years of experience in Semi-Tractor maintenance and repair and/or training and/or military equivalent experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience; willingness to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends if needed.
• A/C Certification,
• 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
• Basic tools are required to successfully perform this role. These tools must be supplied by the employee in most locations. Employees without their own tools may obtain them through a toolbox purchase program.

The expected starting pay range for this position is between $27.66 - $36.85.

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
