Job summary

North Star Imaging (NSI) in Rogers, MN is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support current products and help drive innovation across our x-ray, automation, and CT product lines. This on-site, paid internship runs full-time, with an opportunity to present your summer project to NSI leaders.

You will collaborate with engineers on mechanical design using SolidWorks, perform analyses, and create drawings and BOMs while gaining exposure to NDT concepts and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing an engineering degree (junior or senior) with a 3.0+ GPA.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD software (SolidWorks).
• Ability to present complex technical information to internal customers.
• Familiarity with mechanical hardware development and qualification.
• Experience in cross-functional teams (Sales, Manufacturing, Service, etc.).
• Strong grasp of mechanical principles, machine design, automation, and robotics.
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
• Self-motivated; comfortable stepping into a lead role when needed.
• Experience with optical or x-ray imaging systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers to provide robust mechanical design and support of NSI products and components throughout the product lifecycle.
• Analyze and input to complex machine designs incorporating motion control systems, robotics, and part handling.
• Design assemblies and components using SolidWorks.
• Prepare detailed drawings and bills of materials for fabrication and assembly of equipment.
• Provide analysis of drive systems, structural assemblies and sub-components using basic calculation methods and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Interface with manufacturing to support product assembly, testing, troubleshooting and installation.
• Lead and participate in design reviews for minor designs with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Develop working knowledge of X-ray and NDT techniques through NSI technical experts and practical application.
