Job summary

Van Wall Equipment in Iowa offers a paid Green Iron Academy, a four‑month program to train mechanically inclined individuals into John Deere Certified Diesel Technicians. The program runs at Boone with pathways to a full‑time Diesel Technician role at a sponsoring Van Wall dealership upon completion.

Participants will learn diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and precision agriculture tech, using manuals, software, and specialized tools under expert mentorship.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of full‑time work in a diesel/mechanical related field
• High School Diploma or GED required; higher education preferred but not required
• Desire to pursue a long-term career as an Agricultural Equipment Diesel Technician
• Reliability, safety focus, strong work ethic, teamwork and commitment to development
• Ability to use computers and dealership software to access training materials and records
• Travel up to 10% and valid driver’s license; insurability required

Responsibilities

• Participate in classroom and manufacturer‑led training
• Gain hands‑on experience in equipment service and repair
• Complete John Deere University online courses and certifications
• Develop knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and precision agriculture tech
• Learn to use John Deere service manuals, diagnostic software, and tools
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and basic service repairs
• Assist with diagnostics, troubleshooting, removal, disassembly, and reconditioning
• Attend additional training after graduation from Green Iron Academy
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work area
• Collaborate with peers and mentors on projects and tasks
• Other duties as assigned
