Job summary

Van Wall Equipment offers a paid Green Iron Academy 4‑month development program to transition mechanically inclined individuals into an agriculture equipment Diesel Technician role.

Participants train at Boone, IA and other Van Wall locations, progressing to a full‑time technician position after program completion. John Deere University online courses and mentorship are provided throughout the program.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of full‑time work experience in a profession similar to a diesel mechanic or related field.
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree, trade school, military training, or prior mechanical experience preferred but not required.
• Desire to pursue a long‑term career as an Agricultural Equipment Diesel Technician working on John Deere products.
• Reliability, strong work ethic, safety focus, teamwork and commitment to professional development.
• Mechanical aptitude and genuine interest in diagnosing and repairing equipment.
• Ability to use computers and dealership software to access training materials, maintain records, and support daily operations.
• Experience learning technical concepts and applying them in a hands‑on environment.
• Desire and passion to support customers and ensure their satisfaction.
• Effective communication with customers, coworkers and management.
• Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
• Must lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Participate in classroom training at Boone, IA facility and manufacturer programs.
• Learn from instructors and mentors to gain hands‑on equipment service experience.
• Complete John Deere University courses and certification requirements.
• Develop knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems and precision ag tech.
• Learn proper use of John Deere manuals, diagnostic software and tools.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and basic service repairs under supervision.
• Assist with diagnostics, troubleshooting, removal, disassembly and reconditioning of components.
• Attend additional training after graduation from Green Iron Academy.
• Follow safety policies and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Collaborate with peers on projects and tasks.
