Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Company in Lombard, IL is seeking a climbing Arborist Trainee for an internship in 2027. The office is outdoors, and you’ll work with a tree care team across pruning, removal, and health-improvement tasks.

Starting pay is $20–$23 per hour, with paid time off, 401(k) with match, health plan, and career development opportunities; successful trainees can advance within the company.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, or Landscaping.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete First Aid, CPR and defensive driving courses upon hire.
• Preferred: Pesticide licenses or certificates, if required by state law.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees and assist with pruning and removals.
• Operate as a member of a tree crew while learning new skills.
• Perform pruning and removal tasks safely and professionally.
• Assist in installing cables, bracing, and lightning protection.
• Maintain and operate chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and related equipment.
• Grow and develop skills; progression depends on performance.
