Job summary

Veterans Health Administration seeks a Registered Nurse for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to provide specialized perioperative care. The RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care during Pre-anesthesia, Post-anesthesia I & II, and extended recovery from sedation for surgical or diagnostic procedures.

Responsibilities include administering medications, coordinating care, and documenting in the electronic health record.

Qualifications

• One year or more PACU experience.
• Two or more years CCU or ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care.
• Coordinates care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction across the continuum of care.
• Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
• Assesses patients for procedures, recognizes contraindications for anesthesia and/or surgical intervention.
• Applies post-sedation scoring and evaluates postoperative status across systems, ensuring stabilization or improvement.
