Job summary

United Surgical Partners International, Inc is seeking an RN PACU for our New Mexico Surgery Center - Orthopaedics. This role focuses on the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period, assessing and documenting patient status in PACU and coordinating care with surgeons and anesthetists.

The position emphasizes efficient nursing care, patient comfort, and accurate discharge preparation in a high-quality ambulatory setting. No weekends, no on-call requirements, and paid holidays are offered.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
• Current state license in nursing.
• BLS, PALS and ACLS certification required.
• One year experience in intra-operative setting.

Responsibilities

• Perform nursing care in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period.
• Assess and document patient status upon arrival in PACU.
• Monitor patient condition and inform surgeon or anesthetist of complications.
• Develop and implement a plan of care for the postoperative patient.
• Ensure effective organization of time, equipment, and staff in PACU.
• Maintain cleanliness and inventory of supplies in the postoperative area.
• Provide patient and family education for discharge instructions.

Job Summary

• Effectively organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel for efficient management of the patient
• Organizes nursing activities efficiently, considering staff abilities when delegating activities
• Uses equipment effectively by anticipating patient needs and providing appropriate care
• Confirms that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
• Assists in managing inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels in the postoperative area
• Maintains order and cleanliness of postoperative area
• Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period
• Assesses and documents the patient’s physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room
• Documents post-anesthesia care in the recovery room during the patient’s recovery fromanesthesia/sedation according to approved policies and procedures
• Provides nursing care to meet patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered
• Monitors patients and informs surgeon or anesthetist of observed complications
• Performs thorough postoperative patient assessment prior to discharge of the patient
• Assists in assessing the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge
• Develops a plan of care for the patient based on the assessment data
• Reviews postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the surgeon with patient and significant other/family member and documents in the patient’s medical record
• Informs patient and family about appropriate care and procedure to follow upon returning home
• Determines that patient and significant other/family member understand conditions that require immediate care/method to obtain immediate care
• Provides comfort and reassurance to the patient while promoting privacy and dignity
