Job summary

Children's National Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN will provide comprehensive postoperative care, monitor airway, breathing, and circulation, and respond rapidly to emergencies.

You will collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure patient safety and comfort in the immediate recovery period. Minimum BSN, at least 2 years PACU or equivalent critical care experience, DC RN license, CPR and PALS.

Qualifications

• BSN from an approved school of nursing (preferred).
• 2 years PACU experience or related critical care/pediatric ED experience required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patient airway postoperatively, including airway edema and laryngospasms.
• Perform manual IPPV and monitor oxygenation and cardiopulmonary function.
• Manage postoperative pain and epidural/local anesthetic administration.
• Monitor for emergence delirium and ensure patient safety during recovery.
• Lead or participate in handoffs and collaboration with the care team.
