Job summary

Lakeside Surgery Center in Orlando, FL is seeking a PRN Pre Op/PACU Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse to join our ophthalmic surgery team. You will support patient care before and after surgery in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Candidates must hold a Florida RN or LPN license, have BLS certification, and prefer ophthalmology experience. ACLS is a plus. One year of ambulatory surgery OR experience is required; ACNC focus is eye care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Florida state license as RN or LPN.
• Minimum 1 year of ambulatory surgery or OR experience; ophthalmology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, instruct & prepare patients prior to surgery.
• Ensure informed consent is signed and correct.
• Record vital statistics and readiness for procedure.
• Initiate IVs and inform patients about procedure(s).
• Assess post-operative condition and discharge readiness.
• Monitor vitals and progress toward discharge criteria.
• Document findings in patient files.
• Respond to patient questions and ensure comfort.
• Monitor for condition changes and inform physician.
• Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Assesses, instructs & prepares patients prior to surgery
• Ensures that operative and informed consents are signed and correct
• Takes and records vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
• Initiates intravenous lines (IV) and ensures patients are informed about procedure(s)
• Assesses patients’ post-operative condition
• Monitors vital signs and other measurements of progress, meeting discharge criteria
• Logs all findings in patient files
• Responds to patient questions and ensures patient comfort
• Monitors patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
• Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies

Requirements

Education & Experience

• Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills, be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, required.
• Current Florida state license to practice as a registered nurse or licensed practice nurse, required.
• Minimum of one (1) year experience as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in an ambulatory surgery or operating room, required. Ophthalmology experience, preferred.
• Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification, required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, preferred.
