Job Requirements
Under limited supervision, acts as a team member to support UMMS’s PACS and other radiology and clinical imaging systems, ensuring smooth clinical operations and an always‑on infrastructure.
Principal Responsibilities And Tasks
- Maintain and support the Enterprise Radiology PACS hardware and software, including accurate configuration and documentation for modalities, workstations, servers, worklists, RIS procedure codes, and workflows.
- Monitor all system backups to ensure timely completion and respond to failures for continuous 24/7 service.
- Monitor system queues to ensure all systems remain functional and meet required specifications.
- Administer system security, manage user and system passwords, and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in accurate inventory of all PACS equipment and related hardware/software, maintaining records in the RAD IT database and performing regular inspections.
- Escalate critical system issues to RAD IT Technical Systems Engineering or management.
- Act as liaison between Radiology, IT, and vendor partners regarding system issues, upgrades, and problems.
- Maintain data quality and control procedures for the Enterprise Radiology PACS.
- Periodically check the process monitor to ensure studies flow from modalities to archive and are routed to review stations.
- Fix studies broken during RIS validation or OCR.
- Split and merge studies as required, supporting staff in exam QC.
- Support service requests for off‑line exams and manage queue activity.
- Train current and new faculty, staff, and approved end users on proper use and function of the PACS system.
- Provide training and discussion groups for upgrades, enhancements, and user effectiveness.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiological Technology with a valid RRT certification, or equivalent experience.
- Experience performing system administration and user training in a healthcare environment is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency with computer operations, including hardware, software, and system procedures required for radiology-related software; knowledge of database/systems management principles and medical imaging equipment and terminology strongly preferred.
- Effective oral and written communication skills to work with a diverse group of people at various position levels inside and outside the organization.
