Job summary

Westfield Egg Farm in New Holland, PA is seeking a Packing Team member to help with pre-inspecting, packing, and cleaning. The role starts in the early morning shift (3:00 am – 7:00 am, Monday to Friday and Saturdays as needed) and requires the ability to read simple terms in English and perform basic arithmetic.

No prior experience is required, but basic training in food safety and egg packing procedures is provided. The job offers PTO, free eggs, branded clothing, and company events.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required.
• Basic English reading ability.
• Basic math: two-digit numbers and multiples of 10s/100s.
• Ability to perform weight, measurement, volume and distance operations.
• Willingness to complete basic food safety training and adhere to company values.

Responsibilities

• Check cartons for quality issues and verify correct carton type.
• Ensure each carton is properly filled and meets packaging standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized area around the packers; keep cartons off the floor.
• Unfold and prepare cases for use.
• Place filled egg cartons into the correct cases.
• Apply printed labels to each case, indicating product type and egg size.
• Inspect labeling accuracy and document findings on the Label Inspection Form.
• Verify the code printer is functioning and codes are legible.
• Clean processing equipment and surrounding area after production per food safety standards.
• Remain attentive during grader/packer operations and report safety concerns to management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Purpose of Position: The Packing Team is responsible for pre-Inspecting, packing, & cleaning.

Essential Duties:

• Check cartons for any quality issues and verify that the correct type of carton has been loaded.
• Ensure each carton is properly filled and meets packaging standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized area around the packers; keep all cartons off the floor.
• Unfold and prepare cases for use.
• Place filled egg cartons into the correct cases.
• Apply printed labels to each case, indicating product type and egg size.
• Perform regular inspections of each packer to confirm correct labeling; document findings on the Label Inspection Form.
• Verify that the code printer is functioning correctly by checking the legibility and accuracy of printed codes on cartons.
• Clean processing equipment and the surrounding area at the end of production in accordance with food safety standards.
• Remain attentive and focused during grader/packer operations.
• Promptly report any suspicious activity or safety concerns to management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No prior experience or training is required.
• Ability to read a limited number of words in English.
• Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
• Ability to add or subtract two-digit numbers and multiply or divide with 10s and 100s.
• Ability to perform operations with units of weight, measurements, volume and distance.

Training Needed:

• Completion of basic food safety training.
• Training in standard egg packing procedures, as required.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, to climb stairs and ladders, use hand to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee is regularly required to move about the facility. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to seek assistance in the lifting of more than 50 pounds or use a crane or hoists. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
