Job description

Overview

The Facilities Mechanic has primary responsibility for maintaining production and quality by ensuring the operation of all Westfield's egg grading and material handling equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Adjusts well to new situations and changes.

  • Troubleshoots and maintains egg grading equipment, power jacks, and production printers per manuals and specifications.
  • Identifies mechanical issues through observation, sound analysis, and precision testing.
  • Manages equipment and parts inventory, orders supplies, and verifies deliveries.
  • Minimizes downtime by training production workers on routine maintenance.
  • Dismantles equipment to remove and replace defective parts.
  • Calibrates machine timing and gear ratios for optimal performance.
  • Maintains and repairs plumbing systems for safety and efficiency.
  • Inspects and adjusts parts to meet dimensional requirements.
  • Modifies and fine-tunes equipment components and control instruments.
  • Fabricates repair parts using machine tools and welding equipment.
  • Ensures a safe, clean work environment by following regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
Work Schedule
  • Regular work hours are Monday-Friday, 7 AM - 5 PM, or during grading hours.
  • Occasional Saturdays may be required for maintenance, repairs, or grading.
  • Must be present during grading hours unless prior arrangements are made.
Requirements
  • Experience in equipment maintenance and mechanical repair.
  • Complete support of and willing adherence to Westfield Egg Farm’s mission, vision and core values. Applicant must hold these standards as his/her own.
  • Proficient ability to read and write in English and an ability interpret documents such as maintenance instructions and standard operating procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions

This position requires frequent standing and movement throughout the facility, with occasional walking, climbing stairs or ladders, reaching, handling objects, and communicating. Sitting may be required at times. Employees must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds regularly. Vision requirements include close, distance, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus. The work environment may involve occasional exposure to airborne particles, chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, moving machinery, vibration, and temperature extremes. Noise levels typically range from moderate to loud.
