Detailed Job Description
As a Packet Core Engineer supporting CompNova on a remote basis across the USA and Canada, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of 5G AMF deployment, NGAP/N1/N2 signaling interfaces, service‑based architecture (SBA), and life‑cycle management. Your day‑to‑day responsibilities include configuring AMF nodes, troubleshooting registration and handover failures, integrating with SMF, UDM, and AUSF network functions, collaborating with cross‑functional core engineering squads, and interacting directly with technical recruitment leaders like Salwan Singh. Furthermore, you will manage application requirements by submitting your updated resume via direct email to Salwan Singh at salwan.s@compnova.ai.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, deploy, configure, test, and maintain enterprise 5G Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) network elements.
- Manage 3GPP service‑based architecture (SBA) interfaces, HTTP/2 REST APIs, and signaling protocols between 5G core functions.
- Troubleshoot complex NGAP, N1, N2, and NAS signaling procedures governing subscriber registration, connection, and reachability.
- Optimize handover performance, tracking area updates (TAU), and mobility management across gNodeB radio access networks.
- Integrate AMF platforms with Session Management Functions (SMF), User Data Management (UDM), and Authentication Server Function (AUSF).
- Monitor packet core performance counters, CPU/memory scaling, and signaling throughput across cloud‑native environments.
- Conduct rigorous root‑cause analysis (RCA) and incident remediation for core network signaling anomalies and connection drops.
- Maintain meticulous technical documentation, network architecture diagrams, API schemas, and configuration audit logs.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5+ years of progressive professional hands‑on experience in mobile packet core engineering (EPC and 5G Core).
- Strong, demonstrable operational expertise in 5G AMF configuration, NGAP, NAS, and 3GPP Service‑Based Architecture (SBA).
- Comprehensive working knowledge and practical proficiency in cloud‑native network functions (CNFs) and microservices architecture.
- Deep practical experience in real‑time packet capture and protocol analysis tools (Wireshark, TShark, Spirent/Viavi testers).
- Solid practical grasp of Kubernetes orchestration, Docker containerization, and cloud infrastructure platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Exceptional analytical problem‑solving aptitude, system debugging capabilities, and professional communication capabilities.
- Mandatory legal work authorization and physical availability for remote professional operations in the USA or Canada (C2C, W2, or IC eligible).
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Professional vendor certifications such as Nokia Certified 5G Core Engineer or Ericsson Certified Associate in 5G Packet Core.
- Hands‑on familiarity with service mesh technologies (Istio), API gateways, and CI/CD deployment pipelines (GitLab, Jenkins).
- Prior professional working experience in top‑tier multinational mobile network operators (MNOs) or tier‑1 5G core vendors.
- Experience utilizing enterprise IT service management and agile tracking platforms (Jira, Confluence) for ticketing and issue resolution.
