ABOUT THE ROLE

At Baxter Brewing Co., we believe great beer has a story, and the final chapter starts with you. As our Packaging Lead, you'll take charge of the last step before our beer hits shelves, fridges, and coolers across Maine. You'll make sure every can and keg meets our standards, lead day-to-day line operations, and keep things moving with consistency and care. You'll be part of a crew that takes pride in doing things right with purpose, attention to detail, and a shared love for what we brew.

The Packaging Lead is a key leadership role within our brewing operations team, responsible for the efficient, high-quality packaging of Baxter's craft beers to meet customer demand. You'll guide a packaging crew through 10-hour shifts, manage workflows, and use critical thinking to identify and address issues early, keeping production running smoothly and on schedule. You'll also work cross-functionally with other departments to implement improvements, track performance, and drive results without ever compromising quality.

The ideal candidate pairs hands-on operational experience with a strategic mindset. You're comfortable on the floor, quick to adapt to shifting priorities, and known for leading by example. You understand how to turn data into action, using insights to enhance performance, grow your team, and push continuous improvement forward.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Lead and optimize packaging operations, including the safe and efficient use of the canning line, kegging line, PakTech applicator, vacuum lift, and jib crane.
  • Drive packaging process standardization by creating, updating, and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality standards to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance with Baxter's quality benchmarks.
  • Monitor and improve production performance through proactive equipment maintenance, real-time troubleshooting, light repairs, and preventative maintenance routines that reduce downtime and maximize throughput.
  • Oversee product handling and packaging execution, ensuring correct filling, cleaning, labeling, and assembly of all formats (cans, kegs, 12-packs, and cases) and that all packaging meets regulatory and Baxter standards.
  • Run data-driven quality control, including seam checks, dissolved oxygen testing, and documentation of packaging and mechanical performance metrics to spot trends and drive improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Director and team to align daily execution with production schedules and broader business goals.
  • Onboard, train, and mentor new Team Members through structured, goal-oriented programs that build technical skills and a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Keep packaging areas clean, organized, and safe, including inventory movement and forklift operation.
  • Represent Baxter at public-facing events and act as a brand ambassador in the community and industry.
  • Support long-term operational planning by staying aware of market trends and customer insights that can guide packaging improvements.
  • Foster a high-performance culture by encouraging innovation, celebrating success, and continuously looking for ways to streamline processes and boost productivity.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • High school diploma or GED/HiSET
  • Previous packaging, production, or brewery experience; relevant industry experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory experience (this role supervises one or more Team Members)
  • Proven success in a fast-paced production environment
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex problems with effective, innovative solutions
  • Strict attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures
  • Ability to lead change and guide teams through it
  • Positive attitude; a self-motivated team player
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software
