Job summary

General Motors in Burton, MI is seeking a student for its 2027 Student Internship Program in Packaging Optimization. This onsite role will immerse you in packaging design, prototype development, and performance testing within a global supply network.

You will address packaging problems, analyze engineering drawings, evaluate vendors, and collaborate with engineering, product management, operations and sourcing.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related field.
• Graduating between December 2027 and August 2028.
• Able to work full time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Support the complete packaging development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
• Fix new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and provides creative, timely, and cost‑effective solutions.
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
• Evaluate and select packaging suppliers / vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
• Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
• Participate in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market.
