Job summary

General Motors in Burton, MI is offering a Student Internship in Packaging Optimization. You will join the Packaging Optimization team and contribute to packaging development, supplier collaboration, and bringing new products to market.

You will gain hands-on experience with design, testing, and data analytics, while collaborating cross-functionally with engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing during a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering or related field.
  • Graduating between December 2027 and August 2028.
  • Able to work full time, 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Support the complete packaging development process including the creation of packaging designs, prototype development, and performance testing.
  • Fix new and existing packaging problems involving designs, materials, processes and provide creative, timely, and cost‑effective solutions.
  • Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to resolve physical characteristics of item, special handling, environmental and safety requirements, and types of materials required for packaging.
  • Evaluate and select packaging suppliers / vendors; periodically conduct vendor reviews.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work closely with global suppliers, engineering, product management, operations, and sourcing.
  • Participate in product introduction teams to deliver new products to market.
