Job summary

Caterpillar is creating a new advanced manufacturing campus in Sanford, NC, to expand production for heavy equipment. As a Packaging Engineer, you will design and implement packaging solutions to protect products, improve efficiency, and reduce total delivered cost across global distribution networks.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics teams to drive automation, sustainability, and cost improvements, while aligning with AMRs, AGVs, and other automation in a

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a packaging or engineering field as listed.
• Experience in packaging engineering, manufacturing engineering, or logistics engineering.
• Experience in manufacturing environments for industrial products or distribution.
• Knowledge of packaging solutions compatible with automated systems.
• Exposure to Lean/Six Sigma and DFMA methodologies.
• Experience with startup operations in manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead packaging design to protect products and optimize cost and delivery.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics on packaging strategy.
• Develop packaging standards, specifications, and documentation.
• Evaluate materials, automation technologies, and packaging processes.
• Integrate automation with AMRs/AGVs/ASRS within an automated environment.
• Support NPI programs through packaging design, validation, and launch.
• Drive continuous improvement in packaging utilization and freight efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations and customer requirements.
• Lead packaging validation and testing, including transit tests and simulations.
• Provide input on RFID tracking for end-to-end visibility.
