Job summary

Greenheck Group seeks a motivated Packaging Engineer Co-op for January–August 2027 to support packaging design, development, and testing across multiple product lines.

You will create drawings, specify materials, evaluate prototypes with suppliers, and analyze freight data to reduce cost and improve sustainability. This paid co-op offers housing or sign-on support and exposure to AI-enabled analysis tools.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a related bachelor’s degree with technical aptitude.
• On track to graduate within the next three semesters.
• Interest in hands-on learning in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and critical-thinking skills.
• Experience with basic hand tools and prototypes.
• Proficiency in Excel and data analysis.
• Experience with 3D modeling software is a plus.
• Coursework or experience with packaging materials, design, or testing methods such as ISTA/ASTM is a plus.
• Experience using AI tools in coursework or projects is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist design and development of packaging solutions, including crates, skids, corrugated materials, and foam.
• Create and update packaging drawings, specifications, and documentation.
• Build, coordinate, and evaluate prototypes and testing with suppliers per ISTA/ASTM standards.
• Research materials, industry trends, and new solutions to improve cost, performance, and sustainability.
• Analyze freight damage and claims data to identify trends and improvements.
• Help standardize packaging designs across product lines to reduce material use.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost, sustainability, pack-out time, and manufacturability.
• Support production teams by troubleshooting packaging issues and suggesting design improvements.
• Explore returnable and reusable packaging options through cost and feasibility analysis.
• Use approved AI and automation tools to enhance packaging analysis and workflows.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Logistics, Quality, Purchasing, and suppliers to communicate results.
