Job summary

Mittera is seeking a Packaging Engineer to design corrugated and carton packaging structures, translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs, and develop dielines and prototypes for production readiness.

The role involves testing for ISTA/ASTM standards, collaborating with prepress and production teams, and mentoring junior staff to ensure design quality and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent job experience.
• Experience in packaging engineering or structural design with corrugated/carton packaging preferred.
• Proficient with structural packaging design software (e.g., ArtiosCAD, Kasemake).
• Knowledge of corrugated and carton board materials, construction styles, and manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read customer specs and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with packaging testing standards (ISTA, ASTM).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills balancing performance, manufacturability and cost.
• Excellent organizational and communication abilities for multi-project work.

Responsibilities

• Designs corrugated and carton packaging structures using CAD software.
• Creates dielines, drawings, and prototypes for boxes, cartons and displays.
• Develops samples to validate structural integrity and print registration.
• Coordinates with prepress, die-making, and production for accurate translation to production.
• Performs package testing to confirm standards and customer requirements.
• Identifies opportunities to reduce material use and costs while improving sustainability.
• Maintains library of dielines, specs, and templates for reuse.
• Trains junior designers and coordinates workflow with sample room teams.
