Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking an estimator to prepare complete project estimates by analyzing scope of work, materials and labor requirements. The role requires reviewing drawings and specifications, planning work activities, and maintaining accurate estimate documentation.

You will work under supervision, apply shop mathematics, and ensure compliance with safety and project rules while coordinating with teams to meet contract requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; related experience may apply.
• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices in the field.
• Supervision level typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

• Review historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts and reports to estimate labor and material quantities.
• Estimate worker-hours and materials required to complete the job.
• Review specifications and drawings to determine the scope of work and required estimate contents.
• Maintain files of working documents and backup data for estimates.
• Read and interpret instructions and plan work activities.
• Move materials and equipment to work locations and set up sites.
• Follow hazardous waste handling guidelines.
• Complete records, maintain tools and perform cleanup and housekeeping.
• Observe safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.

SUMMARY

Prepares complete estimates for assigned project(s) and determines project plans and specifications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and man-hour figures
• Estimates worker-hours and materials required to complete the job
• Reviews specifications, drawings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimates
• Maintains files of working documents and back-up for estimate figures.
• Reads and interprets instructions and documentation and plans work activities.
• Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work sites
• Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
• Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
• Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work.
• Follow contracts as assigned.
• Apply shop mathematics to solve problems.
• Plan work and select proper tools.
• Compare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Performs other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
