Job summary

Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to own portions of project design from concept through construction. The role emphasizes independent task ownership, technical contributions, and potential mentorship of junior staff.

The engineer will perform calculations, code research, QAQC, and cross-discipline coordination, with growing client interaction and leadership responsibilities in a hybrid California office environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• P.E. licensure required.
• 5+ years in the AEC industry preferred.
• Experience with Revit for mechanical design and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead design development and calculations for mechanical systems across schematic to construction document phases.
• Perform mechanical design tasks including load calculations, equipment sizing, controls sequences, and code compliance checks.
• Prepare technical documentation for mechanical systems, including system descriptions, narratives, and equipment schedules.
• Develop and review mechanical system layouts in Revit in coordination with architecture and structure.
• Coordinate with internal/external teams to resolve design conflicts and progress design.
• Review RFIs and submittals with support from engineers.
• Participate in early-phase design strategy discussions and mentor junior staff.
• Engage in internal QAQC and peer reviews for drafting accuracy and code compliance.
