Job summary

The Hartford in Los Angeles is seeking a P&C Middle Market Underwriter for a hybrid role. You will manage and underwrite a middle market book, analyze agency performance quarterly, and apply underwriting guidelines to complex cases with limited senior support.

You’ll build strong broker relationships, advise partners, and drive strategy for renewals and new accounts. Ideal candidates have 3+ years of P&C middle market underwriting, excellent communication, analytical thinking, and a proven track

The Hartford is seeking a highly skilled P&C Middle Market Underwriter, who is responsible for the following:

• Manages and Underwrites a Middle Market book of business


• Analyzes agency book on quarter-to-quarter basis for potential action


• Expertly applies all applicable Underwriting guidelines when making decisions


• Capable of underwriting highly complex business and will require limited support from senior underwriters and infrequent referral activity to complete quotes


• Has thorough knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and governance


• Agency Management which includes creating, driving and execution of strategies for new and/or renewal accounts (prospective book management, executes on the mix strategy, low strategy, territorial and agency sales plans, etc.)


• Acts as a trusted advisor and solution provider to Brokers and Agents

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of P&C Middle Market Broker-facing Carrier Underwriting experience required; position title and tier will be determined upon careful review of selected candidate’s qualifications


• Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners


• Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills


• An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions


• High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit


• Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills


• Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes


• Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win


• Valid driver's license (company pool car may be provided)

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in the Los Angeles office or making sales calls 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is: $96,400 - $180,000
