Job summary

National Electrical Engineering Consultants (NEEC) LLC is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to design, develop, and implement electrical protection and control systems for high-voltage substations and renewable energy projects across the United States.

The role requires frequent multi-state travel and close collaboration with project teams, field personnel, and utility clients to deliver reliable protection solutions from concept through commissioning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3–7 years experience in protection and control design, utility/EPC preferred.
• Knowledge of power system protection, including overcurrent, differential, and distance schemes.
• Proficiency with relay configuration software and drafting/design tools.
• Understanding of SCADA, RTUs, and communication protocols.
• Familiarity with industry codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NERC, NEC).
• Strong documentation and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design protection and control systems for substations and renewables.
• Prepare relay protection and control logic and interconnection drawings.
• Configure protective relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens).
• Develop relay settings and coordination studies.
• Support commissioning and field testing teams.
• Ensure compliance with NERC/IEEE/IEC standards.
• Coordinate with civil/structural/physical teams.
• Prepare as-built docs, panel layouts, BOMs.
• Conduct peer reviews and quality checks.
• Provide technical support during design reviews and fault investigations.
