Job summary

The Link Minnesota in the Southwest Suburbs of Minneapolis is seeking a Youth Specialist to oversee safety, supervision and programming for youth at the Safe Harbor Emergency Shelter. You will support holistic case management, promote trauma-informed care, and help implement culturally competent youth programming 24/7 in a housing setting.

Responsibilities include group activities, intake, collaboration with police and child welfare, and maintaining detailed records.

Qualifications

• Four years of working with high-risk and vulnerable youth or an AA or BA degree in a related field.
• Experience providing comprehensive and holistic supportive services to young people.
• Training in youth development, harm reduction, and/or trauma informed care.
• Knowledge of issues related to minor sex trafficking and gender-based violence, comprehensive programming, child welfare, and court systems.
• Proven experience providing 1:1 and group support and/or programming within a shelter or other youth setting.

Responsibilities

• High level supervision of youth and facility to ensure safety and security for all youth, staff, and community.
• Enforce shelter and supportive housing policies consistently and fairly.
• Develop and facilitate social, educational, and recreational activities grounded in youth development and trauma-informed care.
• Interact with police and child welfare for smooth transitions for youth.
• Develop nurturing relationships and maintain professional boundaries.
• Conduct full intake with youth entering shelter.
• Assist with case management and coordination of services.
• Operate phone, security, and front desk systems to create a safe program.
• Provide daily communication with Program Manager and team to ensure holistic support.
• Light cleaning and office maintenance; group facilitation; document progress notes.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed; transportation as necessary.
• Create and maintain a welcoming, 24-7 community and culture.
