Job Summary:

The Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) involves working with adolescents, typically aged 12–18, diagnosed on the Autism spectrum with mental health concerns and developmental or intellectual disabilities. The Behavior Technician - ITP in a residential setting is responsible for delivering evidence-based methods to support individuals with Autism and/or Intellectual Disabilities and mental health involvement. Responsibilities include applying Applied Behavior Analysis approaches, conducting classroom and residential observations, data collection, supporting staff in implementing individual behavior protocols and intervention plans, and monitoring treatment integrity. Additionally, the role involves assisting with personal hygiene tasks. Each individual may also be assigned to special projects, including administrative and organizational tasks.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Supervise clients directly during overnight and early morning hours.
  • Perform 15-minute checks during evening hours and document as required.
  • Support a therapeutic and safe milieu, actively participating in its development.
  • Develop knowledge of therapeutic interventions and interactions.
  • Observe behaviors and communicate findings to supervisors and medical staff as appropriate.
  • Implement behavioral plans tailored to each individual.
  • Provide ongoing feedback on the individual’s response to behavior plans.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including ICNP, BIP, monthly summaries, and daily logs.
  • Perform duties listed on program-specific responsibility checklists as assigned by supervisors.
  • Possess basic knowledge of alternative communication techniques, including AAC devices and basic sign language.
  • Implement individual schedules, such as sensory schedules, milieu programming, and toileting, as indicated in behavioral plans.
  • Perform scheduled cleaning tasks and environmental rounds.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Basic sign language knowledge is a plus but not required.
Education:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
Experience:
  • No prior experience required.
Required License/Registration/Certification:
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License.
  • Preference for candidates with Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) credential.
Training:
  • Continuing education per NYS Office of Profession guidelines.
  • All required agency trainings, including Applied Behavior Analysis and SCIP-R.
  • Additional trainings as required by service programs.
Physical Requirements:

The position is primarily sedentary with occasional light physical exertion. Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. Frequent demands include standing, walking, climbing, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and coordination. Occasional demands involve sitting. There is minimal exposure to environmental conditions.
