Job summary

Catholic Charities La Posada is seeking a Caseworker Coach I to support residents in obtaining safe, stable housing. You will coordinate with the Homeless Services team, conduct intakes, and guide participants in using community resources.

The role emphasizes trauma‑informed care, collaboration with partners, and maintaining accurate HMIS records. Overnight availability is required for full or part‑time shifts at the San Diego shelter.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum one-year experience serving people experiencing homelessness, living with substance use disorders, and/or mental illness.
• Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required; must read, write and speak English.
• Background check and TB test required.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches; knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Housing First, harm-reduction a plus.
• Strong computer skills; ability to enter information into HMIS systems.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and orient new participants to the shelter and explain routines.
• Provide consistent presence to ensure residents’ safety.
• Prepare meals and supervise cleanup and stocking for next day.
• Help participants develop life skills (showering, laundry, environment).
• Support residents in following goals; document progress and barriers.
• Assist with gathering documents for housing and benefits.
• Maintain clean, well‑kept facility; supervise chores.
• Report issues to supervisor; log activities and notes daily.
• Facilitate access to technology for meetings with stakeholders.
• Complete monthly reports and required paperwork.
