Job summary

The Obama Presidential Center in Jackson Park, Chicago, is seeking a Security Officer to protect guests, staff and exhibits on a 3rd shift (1:00am–9:30am). The role requires patrolling, monitoring cameras, and enforcing safety protocols to maintain a welcoming but secure environment.

You will report to a Security Supervisor and collaborate with local law enforcement as needed. This in-person role supports our mission to inspire and empower communities while ensuring safety and accessibility

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–2 years security or related experience preferred.
• CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred or required within 60 days.
• Valid state Security Guard License preferred.
• Experience with security monitoring systems and incident reporting is a plus.
• Experience or interest in a direct-facing role with the public and security tech.
• Strong observational and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to stay calm and professional under stress.
• Willing to work outdoors and indoors in varying conditions.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high visibility and a welcoming, respectful presence.
• Ensure safety by monitoring behavior, addressing issues, and enforcing protocols.
• Monitor premises with security systems and report incidents.
• Greet visitors, screen access, and manage entry points for authorized personnel.
• Implement emergency response protocols as needed.
• Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services.
• Protect artifacts and exhibits from damage or theft.
• Document incidents and report to management with details.
• Attend training, drills, and certifications for safety.
