Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Paramus, NJ is seeking an Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our team. The role involves anesthesia induction, monitoring, triage, radiography, and IV catheter care to support critically ill pets.

Qualifications

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients.
• Triage emergency cases and monitor vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Understand normal ranges for vitals including HR, RR, BP, SpO2.
• Obtain and interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian.
• Identify arrest risk and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical math and administer meds.
• Phlebotomy and IV catheter placement in peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia during procedures.

• Perform digital radiography and ensure proper patient positioning.
• Maintain knowledge of normal vital sign ranges for early issue detection.
• Monitor BP and other vitals, communicate changes to Veterinarian.
• Identify at-risk patients and initiate CPR when needed.
• Execute medical calculations and administer medications as prescribed.
• Securely place IV lines and draw blood as needed.
• Manage feeding tubes and central venous catheters.
• Provide mentorship and training to team members.
• Demonstrate patience and empathy in client interactions.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Paramus, NJ is seeking a skilled and compassionate Overnight Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our team!

Pay:

$27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience, credentialing, and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$6.00/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
