Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Paramus, NJ is seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our Overnight ER/ICU team. Prior veterinary assistant experience required.

Schedule is 3x12 or 4x10s with pay between $23.60 and $32.80 per hour. Responsibilities include nursing care, vital signs, medication administration under an LVT, digital radiography, CPR, and client discharge instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with nursing care for hospitalized patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Perform physical assessments: heart rate, CRT, mucous membrane color, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand medication classifications, monitor side effects, and track responses.
• Administer medications under the direction of a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
• Perform diagnostic procedures, including digital radiography and lab sample collection/processing.
• Remain current on RECOVER CPR guidelines and follow CPR roles as directed by clinicians.
• Assist with client triage, review estimates, and provide discharge instructions.
• Stock and clean ICU and hospital areas to maintain a safe, organized environment.

Pay: $23.60 - $32.80 / hour

Responsibilities of a Veterinary Assistant:

• Assist with nursing care for hospitalized patients in accordance with hospital standards of care and core values.
• Perform physical assessments by accurately obtaining heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time (CRT), mucous membrane color, temperature, respiratory rate, and respiratory effort.
• Understand the classification of commonly used medications, recognize associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic responses.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations under the direction of a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
• Perform diagnostic procedures, including digital radiography and laboratory sample collection and processing.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R. CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in assigned CPR roles as directed by the attending clinician or supervisor.
• Engage with clients by assisting with patient triage, reviewing estimates, and providing discharge instructions.
• Stock, clean, and maintain the Emergency, ICU, and other designated hospital areas to ensure a safe, organized, and efficient patient care environment.
