Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician for our Overnight Emergency team. This role offers a sign-on bonus up to $20,000 based on experience and a pay range of $27.00 to $51.00 per hour plus competitive shift differentials.

You will induce, monitor and recover anesthesia, triage emergencies, perform DI radiography, and monitor vital signs. Shift differentials apply for nights and weekends, with a 4-hour minimum.

Qualifications

• Licensed Veterinary Technician in NY or eligible to practice.
• Experience in emergency/overnight settings preferred.
• Competency-based pay progression with experience.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia using monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergencies and record vitals.
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Place IV catheters and manage venous access.
• Mentor and train fellow staff.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is hiring an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician to work in our thriving Overnight Emergency team.

*This position is offering up to a $20,000 sign-on bonus based on experience*

Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive hourly shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

We also offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.50/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$8.00/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
