Job summary

The Pavilion Behavioral Health System operates a 110-bed inpatient hospital with residential treatment, outpatient services, and a private school. This Intake Registered Nurse position supports the referral and admission process, coordinating telephonic and in-person risk assessments to determine appropriate levels of care.

The Intake RN works under the Intake Director, coordinating with families, patients, and staff, and collaborates with the Business Office and UR department on insurance

Qualifications

• Licensure: Currently licensed in the state of Illinois as a Registered Nurse
• Education: Graduate from an accredited program of professional nursing; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Experience: 2-3 years in substance abuse/psychiatric treatment programs, including intake/admissions and managed care preferred

Responsibilities

• Answers telephone with proper greeting to gather clinical, demographic, and insurance information to determine needs.
• Performs telephonic risk screening for suicidality/homicidality.
• Recommends service levels and admissions based on criteria; guides referrals as needed.
• Schedules assessments with potential patients and sources; explains processes.
• Greets patient and family; explains evaluation and admission procedures.
• Conducts walk-in and scheduled assessments; coordinates with reviewing psychiatrist; makes clinical recommendations.
• Completes admission paperwork; ensures consent and proper documentation.
• Coordinates emergency care or transfers when needed; completes transfer memoranda.
• Notifies referrals if patient is not appropriate for admission; completes crisis safety plan.
