The technician maintains slides, chemicals, and equipment while ensuring accurate patient identification and safety protocols. Qualifications include an Associate’s degree, 1–3 years’ experience, and ASCP HT registration or eligibility preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required.
• ASCP registration preferred; Histology HT registration preferred; histotechnology program preferred.
• 1–3 years of related work experience required.
• Strong background performing special staining.

Responsibilities

• Processes and embeds tissue in paraffin and cuts paraffin blocks using microtomes at the correct setting determined for individual tissue types.
• Follows standard operating procedures, prepares stains and solutions, and stains prepared tissue using routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining processes.
• Maintains equipment for proper functioning and supply inventories, ensures a clean work environment according to hospital standard protocols.
• Participates in inter‑shift coverage for time off, emergencies, and holidays.
• Prepares slides and blocks while maintaining patient identification according to lab practices.
