Job summary

Hesed House is seeking Overnight Guest Care and Shelter Support Staff in Aurora, IL to work the 3rd shift. You’ll be on the front line, supporting guests with dignity and coordinating daily shelter operations, meals, laundry, and upkeep.

Responsibilities include building respectful relationships, responding to crises, and assisting across Hesed programs. The team focuses on safety, compassion, and empowering guests toward stability and housing opportunities.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and basic computer skills are required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb stairs throughout your shift is needed.
• Spanish/English bilingual skills are a plus and background checks are required.

• Build respectful, supportive relationships with guests while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Keep the shelter safe, clean, and running, including meals, laundry, and general upkeep.
• Respond calmly and make sound decisions in tense or crisis situations.
• Model everyday life skills and encourage guests on their path forward.
• Contribute across Hesed programs as needed.

Guest Care & Shelter Support Staff

Pay: $17–$19/hour

Hours:3rd Shift (Overnight 11 pm - 7 am)

Hesed House is a faith-based organization and a national model for ending homelessness. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we serve more than 1,000 people annually with shelter, meals, showers, laundry, case management, and connections to housing, healthcare, legal aid, and job coaching.

The Role

You'll be on the front line of our adult shelters, working alongside directors and shift leads to keep daily operations running and make sure every guest is treated with dignity. No two days are the same.

What you'll do:

• Build respectful, supportive relationships with guests while keeping professional boundaries
• Keep the shelter safe, clean, and running smoothly, including meals, laundry, and general upkeep
• Respond calmly and make sound decisions in tense or crisis situations
• Model everyday life skills and encourage guests on their path forward
• Pitch in across other Hesed programs as needed
