Job summary

Hesed House, located in Aurora, IL, seeks a 1st Shift Guest Care and Shelter Support Staff to help run our 24/7 shelter campus and ensure every guest is treated with dignity. You will work on the front line with directors and shift leads to keep daily operations moving and welcome guests with compassion.

The role emphasizes compassionate but firm boundaries, maintaining a safe and clean shelter, coordinating meals, laundry, and upkeep, and responding calmly in crisis moments.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills and basic computer skills are required.
• Ability to pass DCFS and criminal background checks.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Build respectful, supportive relationships with guests while keeping professional boundaries.
• Keep the shelter safe, clean, and running smoothly, including meals, laundry, and general upkeep.
• Respond calmly and make sound decisions in tense or crisis situations.
• Model everyday life skills and encourage guests on their path forward.
• Pitch in across other Hesed programs as needed.

Salary Range: $17.00 To $19.00 Annually

Guest Care & Shelter Support Staff

Pay: $17-$19/hour

Hesed House is a faith-based organization and a national model for ending homelessness. Open 24/7, 365 days a year, we serve more than 1,000 people annually with shelter, meals, showers, laundry, case management, and connections to housing, healthcare, legal aid, and job coaching.

The Role

You'll be on the front line of our adult shelters, working alongside directors and shift leads to keep daily operations running and make sure every guest is treated with dignity. No two days are the same.

What you'll do:

• Keep the shelter safe, clean, and running smoothly, including meals, laundry, and general upkeep


• Respond calmly and make sound decisions in tense or crisis situations


• Model everyday life skills and encourage guests on their path forward
