Pine Street Inn in Boston is seeking a Front Desk Counselor to provide a warm, professional reception for the Men’s Inn, respond to concerns, and manage access to services.

The role includes monitoring an electronic entry system, logging activities, assisting guests with housing referrals, and coordinating with security and shelter programs on a busy night shift.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Effective computer skills/knowledge are required.
• Minimum one year experience working with homeless population.
• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Preferred: bilingual in any language.
• Preferred: valid MA driver’s license in good standing.
• Preferred: knowledge in addiction, recovery, and mental illness.

• Create guest IDs and frequent entry into the Pine Street data system.
• Maintain friendly and efficient Front Desk operations in a busy, unpredictable environment.
• Collaborate with on-site security services and other Pine Street programs and departments.
• Assist guests of the shelter in accessing services such as food, clothing, medical care, and referral needs.

Pays $22.41 - $28.00 per hour DOE (Salary ranges provided are based on relevant experience and skill set)

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Front Desk Counselor will be primarily responsible for maintaining an exceptional customer service oriented Men's Inn front desk, including welcoming guests, staff and visitors in person and via phone. Responding to guest and neighbor concerns and questions in a timely, professional and responsive manner. Operating an electronic entry monitoring system and multi-line phone system. Logging all activities of the shift. Creating guest IDs and frequent entry into the Pine Street data system. Maintaining friendly and efficient Front Desk operations in a busy, unpredictable environment. Frequent collaboration with on-site security services as well as other Pine Street programs and departments.

The Front Desk Counselor will assist the guests of the shelter in accessing services such as food, clothing, medical care, and referral needs. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring there is a safe and secure environment for guests and staff at the Men's Inn by attending to all safety and security policies, intervene with assistance around substance abuse issues and mental illness, job training and educational needs, assess guests’ needs and assets in order to make appropriate transitional and housing referrals and be an available resource for guests to assist them in their efforts to obtain permanent housing.
