Job summary

MedVet in Austin is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Technician for overnight shifts to join a fast-paced ER team. You will record and deliver rounds, evaluate incoming patients, discuss cases with the care team, educate clients and assist DVM with anesthesia, monitoring, and in-house lab work.

This role requires prior veterinary experience and comfort working in emergencies; strong math for drug calculations; excellent communication, and willingness to work flexible hours.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions and medications.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing.
