Job summary

Oregon Department of Education seeks multiple Dormitory Counselors for the Girls and Boys Dormitory within the Residential Program at the Oregon School for the Deaf. The role includes overnight supervision, living skills instruction, PBIS, and facilitating activities in a safe living environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, ASL PI level 3, and related experience; an Associate degree or 18 months of relevant experience is also considered.

Qualifications

  • Dormitory Counselor High School diploma or GED; AND Six (6) months experience working with children or adults in a group home, foster care setting, or skilled care center.
  • Dormitory Counselor SUB An Associates degree in a behavioral or social science field; OR Eighteen months experience in the skills listed below.
  • American Sign Language at the PI level 3 or better (Gallaudet) or Intermediate or better (WOU) within 6 months of hire.
  • School for the Deaf: Requires American Sign Language at the PI level 3.
  • Link for ASLPI Levels WOU/Bridges Levels Required training: First Aid/CPR Training will be provided annually prior to the start of the school year, if you are unable to attend then you are responsible for finding certification training. MANDT Training.

Responsibilities

  • This is an overnight shift with hours from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Providing residential students with in-sight supervision, living skills instruction, PBIS instruction, recreational and leisure time activities, and a living environment, which is safe, clean, and visually attractive.
  • Planning and supervising large and small groups of students for activities such as instructional play, homework or other educational activity, organized leisure time and after school recreation activities.
  • Keeping attendance and continuously knowing the location, safety and wellbeing of each student under your care.
  • Supervising and/or participating in assisting with sports activities and other extracurricular activities.
